A new exhibit is looking for your thoughts on motherhood. The 2005 exhibit, "Mother: The Job", is a powerful look at how the conscientious mother changes the quality of the population -- and so the world -- one child at a time. As part of the exhibit we are looking for essays, stories, poems, and thoughts... about motherhood, mothers, being a mother, etc. We want to hear from mothers, children, other mothers, people of all ages and backgrounds!

Got Words?

NEW EXHIBIT WANTS YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOTHERHOOD!!

"In a culture that measures worth and achievement almost solely in terms of money, the intensive work of rearing responsible adults accounts for little."
-Ann Crittenden

As part of a 2005 exhibit in San Francisco we are looking for pieces of writing about the work of mothers. The exhibit will show the great importance and economic value of the day-to-day work of mothers, the primary caregiver in the family. The exhibit, "Mother: The Job", is a powerful look at how the conscientious mother changes the quality of the population - and so the world - one child at a time. We want to hear from everybody: mothers, children, people of all ages and from all walks of life! All pieces of writing are welcome, but please consider the following questions:

-What makes a good mother? How does a one become a good mother?
-Do you think the job of mothering is respected in our country?
-Can government institutions or other people replace the mother?
-Were you raised by someone other than your birthmother?
-What is your understanding of the importance of the "primary caregiver" in your life?

Or just send us a story. Be creative!... share your thoughts about child bearing or rearing, sacrifices made by mothers, a true story involving a mother, a funny incident you had together, advice she gave you, thoughts about the absence of a mother in your life, a poem?... Please submit an entry of any length with your contact information(to be used for exhibit files only) to motherthejob@hotmail.com. You can post your thoughts here as a comment, but we need your contact information in order to select your writing for the exhibit.

If your writing is selected it will become part of the exhibit and a chance for others to hear about the value of "mothers" to our society.
